NETOBJECTS FUSION
A good editor to get started with / or if you are pro programmer it can
be good for quickly creating a prototype working site. Netobjects is less
than half price compared to Dreamweaver and you do get a lot for your
money - including many pre-installed web templates .
Simply choose a style or theme of website - there is something for all
kinds of websites from hobby sites to business - some styles are a bit
garish but you get so many there should be something that's suitable .
A style includes all the buttons headers and banners etc. you need -
and these are automatically generated when you create a web page (including
the coding for the button rollovers)
A Few Minor Bad Points
That said you can usually spot a Netobjects designed site a mile off
as so many almost identical sites have been created with them .
Netobjects also claims to do some advanced features like ECommerce ,
we found this rather disappointing for large numbers of products , it's
fine for buy now buttons for up to 20 products but as the products are
stored in a flat file (as opposed to RDBMS like SQL) when you build the
static pages it takes an eternity , the good thing though is once it has
been created they are static so look good as far search engines are concerned.
Also what we weren't too impressed with was the amount of bloated code
produced by this edit in version 7 ,
Perhaps these niggles have been addressed - they are now on version 10
Summing Up
The moans aside , if it wasn't for Dreamweaver
we would still be using this great package , and the price is very good
value for money. It is certainly a good choice for the beginner , wanting
to create fully fledge sites with multimedia capabilities .
