COPYRIGHT
ISSUES
We use a company that provides animations and stills for a 1 off fee
of just over £100 , they are Royalty Free meaning the one of payment
is the only payment . They are of course , like any graphic (or graphics
library) owned and therefore copyrighted by the owner (in our case Jupiter
Images) . Many newbies get caught out (and most get away with it) by how
easy it is to search for a graphic on say Google images then to copy it
to their hard drive and upload on the website or blog / forum etc teakes
just seconds , but could lead to copyright trial in the most extreme cases
.
We recommend you use only graphics you either take yourself with a digital
camera / graphics editor or buy from a stock photo company . Some packages
come with licenced images included eg: Netobjects fusion includes many
of there own designed templates . If you see a graphic on a site that
you like always ask the webmaster if it is OK to use it (and keep a copy
of the reply!)
You may think this is all over the top - and in our opinion you are right!
But some companies take these kind of things very serious - inparticularly
the large stock photo cos like Getty own tons of the graphics on GOogle
images and are continously scouting the net for copyright infringers!
Copyright can also be on your side of course if you take many hours creating
the perfect graphics you may not want someone benfitting from you hard
work . Or the graphic might have a saleable value that you want to protect.
